Boone County Agency Volunteer Count VAC recently completed an informal survey to tabulate the number of Boone County volunteers utilized by area agencies in 2007.105 agencies reported... 74,480 volunteers donated a total of 2,413,403 hours in 2007! This amounts to over $45,299,574 of economic impact to Boone County! These agencies could not have completed all the vital work they do in the community without the help and time of these wonderful volunteers.
For a number of years, Olivet worked with partner Columbia churches, Community United Methodist Church and Bethel Baptist Church, to provide a summer lunch for low-income children. Bethel operates their own lunch program out of their church. With Community United Methodist, the food is provided at an apartment complex. Both are in cooperation with the Central Missouri Food Bank, and operated for 5 weeks during the summer following summer school. This doesn’t involve provision of food, but does include serving and preparation of food like sandwiches and chips, etc. The past couple of years, Olivet has not been active in this endeavor, but Community and Bethel are willing to have help from anyone at Olivet who is committed to this ministry and wishes to help. With two separate lunch programs, you would have a choice of which you would like to help with. If you are interested, please contact Carla Lind or Linda Reed Brown and let us know how you are able to participate. The plans are being made now for this summer’s event.
