The Advent and Christmas Seasons just naturally lend themselves
to many reasons for Olivet friends to get together:
The first Sunday in
December, Olivet friends gather to wrap the donated gifts for the
Voluntary Action Center. Refreshments are shared.
Members and friends sing Christmas carols to our homebound people in the
neighborhood of the church and at the Lenoir community.
At the
Hanging of the Greens, early in
the season of Advent, members and friends decorate the sanctuary, fellowship hall and the
classrooms. A Mission Family will host the evening activities.
The choir
presents an
Advent / Christmas Music Program
during an 11
o'clock worship service, usually in mid-December.
The Education Committee sponsors the
Annual Christmas Party and Visit from Santa
after the children present A
Christmas Pageant and the
youth present a Christmas Drama,
all on the second or third Sunday evening in Advent. The date is
determined each year by the day on which Christmas falls.
December 24th finds the Olivet family and friends sharing in
Christmas Eve Communion
at the church. A less formal communion service is planned for families with
small children at 5 p.m. A
traditional Candlelight Communion Service
begins at 8 p.m.
